American Idol Auditions Part 2: Kansas City
6:52 am, 17th Jan 2009
Hey ya’ll,
Here’s an excerpt from Part Two of my recap for TVGrapevine:
We’re in the Midwest! Welcome to American Idol auditions in Kansas. Thankfully, Kara and Paula have been styled differently tonight. Kara has straight hair and Paula has wavy hair with a headband.
…After we come back from the break, Ryan meets up with David Cook’s parents, which leads into a montage of David performing last season. Sadly, this then leads to a montage of a bunch of dudes doing bad falsetto. The worst has got to be a really big guy in an Ed Hardy skull shirt singing “reflection” from Mulan. Wow.
…By the way, we see Hollywood Lady again in Kansas City, MO. She’s sitting in a corner behind a tree, but she can’t hide from America! Who are you, Hollywood Lady?! Who are you?
Ryan points out that KC is known for jazz, though he doesn’t name any of the musicians that make up its history (Jo Jones, Bennie Moten, Charlie Parker, Coleman Hawkins, Jimmy Rushing, Ben Webster, Lester Young, Walter Page – COUNT BASIE!!!). Instead, we just meet a girl nicknamed “jazz” who sings a horrific version of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”.
The judges are LITERALLY speechless and she leaves before they can regain the power of oral communication. The silence is just that obvious.
We see another disjointed montage of people shouting different things. I’m assuming that KC is a little nutty, and the AI producers had difficulty finding common themes or anything that made sense…at all.
